Magical and entrancing first-person role-playing game

Arx Fatalis is a single-player role-playing game that was first released in 2002. The player will have to complete several quests throughout his or her journey and with a host of weapons to utilize, the action associated with this game cannot be denied. The graphics are quite impressive when we consider the fact that the game was created no less than 15 years ago. Levels of violence dictate that this application is only suitable for mature audiences.

Gameplay and Plot

The main character is immersed into a world without a sun. Civilization has therefore created large underground cities and as resources have become scarce, civil wars are now erupting on a regular basis. The goal is for the player to discover the secrets hidden within the subterranean world of Arx Fatalis. It is necessary to interact with other characters, to interpret ancient runes and to cast powerful spells in order to gain experience points during the journey.

Additional Features

There are more than 20 weapons to choose from; some extremely powerful. The storyline is centered around the actions of the protagonist, so different timelines will be created as he or she makes progress. There are four unique endings offered; each of these promising hope or destruction.

PROS

  • This decision-based game requires a good amount of innovation and strategy
  • Many have compared the quality of Arx Fatalis to that associated with Fallout

CONS

  • A file size of over 500 megabytes could be challenging for older systems
  • There is no multiplayer mode offered by this platform
